Introduction to Jacquard Weaving (2/2)

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to use a Jacquard loom under the guidance of experienced weavers. Workshops with 4-6 people will be held at (TAD) the Textile Arts Department and Studio located on the second floor of MakerLabs at 780 East Cordova St, Vancouver.

In this course you will learn how to create Jacquard weavings from your original drawings, images or designs using Photoshop. Please bring several images on a USB Drive to your first class. (We will send you detailed information before the class begins.)

You will create a file using simple weave structures in black and white or black with one colour. Weaving will be done on a computerized AVL Jacq3G Jacquard loom for a small piece (24” wide x 12-16” high. (60 cm x 40 cm) 720 x 360 pixels. The workshop consists of two 5 hour sessions, then we will schedule each person with weaving time outside of this class time.

Image manipulation and proficiency with Photoshop is required and you should have your own laptop with some version of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. A weaving background is helpful but not required and projects can be adapted to focus more on the design process or weaving. People will weave their own pieces outside of class time or can have them woven by a technician.
