community manager

MakerLabs is seeking a full-time Community Manager to lead our community team. This role oversees the management of Info Desk / Community Coordinators, interns and co-op students to ensure all main functions of the business that are not fabrication and education related are fulfilled and running smoothly. 

The Community Manager sets the agenda and prioritizes team activity. They report directly to the director of MakerLabs. They maintain core business functions including front desk reception, accounts services, facilities, and inventory. They are responsible for hiring and training community staff, setting performance expectations and monitoring job performance and satisfaction. Weekends and extended work hours may be required to meet the needs of the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Hire, train, and evaluate community staff

    • Lead weekly and quarterly team planning meetings

    • Translate executive decisions into actionable tasks, delegate, and deliver precise results in a reasonable timeframe

    • Maintain coverage and completion of core business functions (the front desk, inventory, member services etc.)

    • Generate reports for all main business functions and staff performance

    • Support a positive work environment

    • Manage and oversee all community projects and programs

    • Manage and oversee facilities in 2 separate buildings

    • Manage events

    • Approve changes to internal and external policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

    • 12-9pm availability for 5 days/week including one weekend day

    • Experience working at MakerLabs

    • Computer literate, can adapt to new software systems quickly (programming ability is an asset)

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

    • Proven ability to stay calm in stressful situations

    • Must be self-motivated, a fast learner who takes initiative

    • Possess a constant desire to learn, improve, and optimize everything

    • Strong sense of situational awareness

    • Strong organization skills with attention to detail
